A CRITICAL INVESTMENT IN WOODSTOCK
|
The City of Woodstock is partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) on the Route 47 Widening Project, to promote and support a high quality of life for its community. Through these improvements, this project seeks to honor the City's mission of creating a safe environment, fostering opportunities, supporting growth, and celebrating Woodstock’s heritage and culture.
Utility relocation is underway, with road reconstruction expected to begin in Spring 2026. Following the IDOT April 25, 2025 bid opening, the contract was awarded to Berger Excavating. The project limits are 2.25 miles of Illinois Route 47 (Route 47) from Illinois Route 120 (IL 120) to US Route 14 (US 14), expanding the road to have two lanes in each direction. The limits of construction are Davis Road at the south end to Grove Street at the north end. Roundabouts will also be constructed where Route 47 intersects with Lake Avenue, McConnell Road, and Judd Street/Irving Avenue to improve safety and traffic flow. This significant expansion, combined with the installation of an underground drainage system throughout the roadway section, will restore and upgrade the aging infrastructure. |
Additionally, sidewalk improvements will be constructed on the western side of Route 47, and a shared use path will be installed on the eastern side of Route 47, both spanning from Grove Street to Davis Road. This will further enhance connectivity throughout the corridor for pedestrians, creating a safe space for users as they visit one of our many businesses on Route 47.
IDOT is currently anticipating that road construction will take approximately 2.5 years with completion of the project anticipated by the end of 2028. Work is currently underway with water and sewer main installations on the east side of Route 47, and then will shift west as the project progresses.
